Obituary of Donald C. Snyder, Jr.

WESTERLO - Donald C. Snyder Jr., 62, passed away suddenly Monday, February 24, 2014 at his residence. Born in Catskill on December 4, 1951, he was son of Esther Sanford Snyder and the late Donald C. Snyder. He was raised in Preston Hollow, attending the one-room school there and graduating from Middleburgh High School. Junior worked briefly at Orange Motors in Albany, and then he operated heavy construction equipment. He worked for Albany County Highway Department and the Town of Rensselaerville Highway Department before getting a job with New York State Department of Transportation. He rose through the ranks to the position of driver trainer supervisor, retiring in September of 2011. Junior recently joined the Rensselaerville Senior Citizens Club and enjoyed the activities and friendships there. He was a sports fan, especially the New York Yankees and the Dallas Cowboys. Junior enjoyed the company of his extended family. Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his daughters, Leslie Thorington and Melissa "Missy" (Bruce) Baker; his grandchildren, Shauna Thorington, Cameron Strang and Grace Baker; his siblings, Thomas (Ruth) Snyder and Carol (Mark) Chase; nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Calling hours will be Friday, February 28 from 5 to 8 p.m. at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville. The funeral will be Saturday, March 1 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by cremation. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Rensselaerville Senior Citizens Club will be appreciated.
