Obituary of Charles G. Soderblom

DURHAM – Charles G. Soderblom, age 81, passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2014 at Albany Medical Center Hospital. Born in Queens on June 14, 1932, he was son of the late George and Sigrid Isaacson Soderblom. Charlie was raised in Bellrose, Queens Village, and moved to Durham in 1950. Charlie served as Durham Town Clerk for 20 years. He also served for 20 years in the Army National Guard. Charlie was an active member of Durham Valley Post 1416 of the American Legion, serving twice as Post Commander. He also was a member and Deacon at Cornerstone Baptist Church in East Durham. Charlie is survived by his wife of 42 years, Roberta Starr Soderblom; one daughter, Joann Acker; three grandchildren, George and Michael Acker and Diana (Matt) Losey, and one great-granddaughter, Isabella Acker. In addition to his parents, Charlie was predeceased by his sons, James and Alan Soderblom. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 127 Stone Bridge Road Ext., East Durham, followed by burial with military honors in Oak Hill Cemetery. Memorial donations to the Durham Ambulance, PO Box 106, Oak Hill, NY 12460 will be appreciated.
