Obituary of Albert A. Greer
EAST DURHAM – Albert A. “Al” Greer, 82, passed away Saturday, November 2, 2013 at his residence. Born in Mount Pleasant on November 16, 1930, he was son of the late George and Josephine Petrie Greer. Al was raised in Mamaroneck, and went into the U.S. Navy at age 17. He served two tours with the Navy, being discharged from the second tour in 1959. He was employed as a commercial air conditioning technician at Suburban Refrigeration in White Plains for 35 years, retiring December 1, 1992. Al and his wife moved to East Durham on that date. He was a life member of the American Legion in Mamaroneck, holding membership for 54 years. Al also belonged to the Cairo Golden Age Club, Greenville Golden Years Club, and the Rip Van Winkle Seniors. He enjoyed fishing and watching golf on television.
Al is survived by his loving wife and care-giver, Anna Ruth McClure Greer; two daughters, Karen Sue Halsey and Alyson Greer (James Merolle); four granddaughters, Justine Merolle, Megan, Amanda and Caitlin Halsey; one brother, Stanley (Late Alice) Greer; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Al was predeceased by two brothers, George and Leo Greer.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 3 to 7 p.m. at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville, NY 12083. Officers and members of Durham Valley American Legion will conduct a service at 4 p.m. Rev. Stanley Webster will conduct a service at 7 p.m. Private cremation will follow.
