Obituary of Donald C. Snyder
MEDUSA – Donald C. Snyder, age 93, passed away on Thursday, August 15, 2013 in the Pines at Catskill after a brief illness. Born in Cooksburg on August 21, 1919, he was son of the late Millard and Eva Alger Snyder. Donald worked in the Preston Hollow Sawmill before serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served in the Armored Infantry and was wounded in Germany. Following his honorable discharge, he was a farmer, worked at General Electric for a number of years, served as Superintendent of Highways for the Town of Rensselaerville, then as Deputy Commissioner of the Albany County Highway Department, retiring at age 62. Donald enjoyed bowling and baseball. He was an animal lover, especially dogs and horses. In retirement, Donald enjoyed traveling, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a family man.
Survivors include his wife of 67 ½ years, Esther Sanford Snyder; three children, Thomas M. (Ruth) Snyder, Carol (Mark) Chase and Donald C. Snyder, Jr.; one sister, Alfreda Lawyer; 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 1 step-great-grandchild, several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Donald was predeceased by one sister, Theresa Lewis and one brother, Rodney Snyder.
Calling hours will be Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m. at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville. The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home, followed by burial in Medusa Cemetery. Light a candle at ajcunninghamfh.com.
