Obituary of Robert E. Armstrong

Robert E. Armstrong Sr. (81) of Cornwallville passed away March 19, 2010 at home surrounded by his loving family. Bob was born on the family farm in Cornwallville on Nov. 10, 1928 son of the late Clarence & Edna (Parks) Armstrong. He attended school in Cornwallville and Durham and graduated from Cairo Central School in 1946. He engaged in farming throughout his early life and later worked at Stiefel Labs. He also worked as a truck driver, ambulette driver and as a security guard. Bob enjoyed music and played in several dance bands throughout his life. He also enjoyed deer hunting, travel and winters at his Florida home. He loved his community and enjoyed many life-long associations with friends and neighbors. He served the Town of Durham as Supervisor, Town Justice, & Councilman. He was also a long time member of the East Durham Vol. Fire Co. and an early member of the Durham Ambulance Squad. He also was a very active Mason being a member of the Kedemah Lodge #0693 F. & A.M. He was a loving husband and father who enjoyed time with his family above all things. Bob is survived by his wife of 56 years Janet (Teator) Armstrong, his children Robert Jr. (Bonnie), Claudia Every (Gene), Jennifer Murray (the late David), Lawrence (Michele) and his brother Herbert. Also surviving his grandchildren; Robin Armstrong, Amanda Stegner (Christian), Lisa Every, Nicole Murray, Jackie Murray, Robert Armstrong & Megan Armstrong. He was also blessed with step grandchildren, Susan Carpenter (John), Cynthia Bennardo (Rocco)), Michelle Berger, Kimberly Murphy (Michael) and step great grandchildren, Jose, Rocco, Damon, Antonio, Arianna, Kristoffer, Samantha, Blake & Brady. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law Raymond Teator, Edward Ritter, sister-in-law Stella Teator, nieces & nephews, Deborah Maikis, David Armstrong, Gary Teator, Mark Teator, Darren Teator, Jay Teator, Sharon Hayner & William Teator. He is predeceased by his brother-in-law Howard Teator and sisters-in-law Trudy Armstrong, Shirley Ritter & Barbara Teator, also his father & mother-in-law Norman & Evelyn Teator and his niece Linda Ruocco. He is also survived by and predeceased by many beloved uncles, aunts & cousins and their families, whose friendship and family ties were precious to him throughout his life. He was especially close to his cousin Edmund Armstrong. Funeral service will be 10AM Wed. March 24 at the Cunningham Funeral Home, Greenville, NY. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tues. 5 to 9PM. Interment will be in the Cornwallville Cemetery.
