Obituary of James T. Byrnes
GREENVILLE – James T. “Terry” Byrnes, 56, passed away on Friday, July 26, 2013 at home, surrounded by his loving family and friends. He had fought a courageous battle with cancer. The only son of the late James and Jane McAllister Byrnes, Terry’s immediate family includes his beloved wife, Diane; two stepsons, Jason (Maryann) Robbins and Daniel (Crystal) Burke; four grandchildren, who were the delight of his life, Alyssa Robbins, Devin, Jaden and Avery Burke; his in-laws, Jack and Cecelia Hines, Walter and Arlene Robbins, Karen, Wayne and Matthew Glass. Among the people who loved Terry and will mourn his passing are Carol and Paul Maguire, Ray Maguire, Roger Willsey, and Ron Frantz.
On December 20, 1956, Terry was born into the extended Irish clan of George and Jennie McAllister, which now numbers well over 50 cousins, second cousins, and offspring. A third generation plumber and steamfitter, Terry was a proud member of Local 7, Plumbers & Steamfitters Union in Albany. Previously, he had partnered with his father in James Byrnes Plumbing & Heating of Greenville for nearly 20 years. The family would like to express their appreciation for the support of Terry’s union brothers and sisters. Among many interests, Terry loved boating, target shooting, and vehicles. He enjoyed motorcycles, snowmobiles and his beloved Corvettes.
Calling hours will be Friday, August 2 from 5 to 8 p.m. at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville. Funeral Mass will be Saturday, August 3 at 9:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, 4987 State Route 81, Greenville, followed by burial in Greenville Cemetery.
