Obituary of Herbert J. Armstrong

East Durham – Herbert J. Armstrong (82) of East Durham, NY passed away peacefully in the home he built on May 22, 2013 after a brief illness. He was born in Cornwallville, NY on Jan. 30, 1931, son of the late Clarence & Mary Edna (Parks) Armstrong. Herb had retired from the Greene County Highway Dept. as a Foreman. He proudly served in the US Army. Active in his community, he was a founding member and first President of the Town of Durham Ambulance. He was also a former Town of Durham Constable. Upon his retirement he, along with his wife, made and sold crafts through their business, Armstrong Custom Crafts. He also loved farming and his animals. Herb was known for his strong love for his family. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Waltraud “Trudy” Armstrong and brother Robert Armstrong. Surviving are his children; David Armstrong (and wife Maureen), Deborah Maikis (and husband Kevin), his grandchildren; Troy, and Amy Maikis, Heidi Wesolowski (and husband David), Adam Armstrong, his great grandchild Aidan, his sister-in-law Janet Armstrong, his nieces and nephews; Robert Armstrong, Claudia Every, Jennifer Murray, Larry Armstrong and Kurt Heidemann, and his loveable dog Sparky. Friends may call at the A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR81, Greenville, NY. on Monday, May 27, 2013 from 5 to 8pm. Funeral service will be 11am, Tues. May 28, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Cornwallville Cemetery.
