Obituary of Gertrude Hillicoss

PRESTON HOLLOW – Gertrude Hillicoss, age 98, passed away on Monday, May 13, 2013 at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home in Albany after a long illness. Born in Jersey City, NJ on August 15, 1914, she was daughter of the late Casper and Eva Heinrich Marcinak, and wife of the late Edward J. Hillicoss. Mrs. Hillicoss was a farmer and a farm wife for her entire life. She and her husband ran a dairy farm and raised beef cattle. They also took in boarders for hunting season. In her spare time, Mrs. Hillicoss enjoyed quilting, spending time with her five-generation family, and participating in the activities of the Rensselaerville Seniors and the Albany County Farm Bureau. She is survived by her children, Ellen M. Potter of Preston Hollow, Benjamin C. Hillicoss of Florence, MT and Paul L. Hillicoss of Tucson, AZ; 13 grandchildren, several great and great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Hillicoss was predeceased by her son, Edward J. Hillicoss Jr., and her siblings, Elizabeth, Casper, Lawrence and Albert. Calling hours will be Saturday, May 18 from 1 to 3 p.m. at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 Route 81, Greenville. The funeral will be at 3 p.m., followed by burial in Potter Hollow Cemetery.
