Obituary of Martin Begley

MEDUSA – Martin Begley, age 82, passed away on Friday, March 15, 2013 at the Community Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Castle Island, County Kerry, Ireland on October 6, 1930, he was son of the late John and Elizabeth Hogan Begley. Martin came to the United States in 1957, to New York City. He was employed by AT & T in Whitestone as a computer and teletype technician, retiring to Medusa in 1987. Martin was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church in Greenville, member of the Greenville Irish-American Club, member of Our Lady of Knock Council 6439 Knights of Columbus, volunteer with Rensselaerville Ambulance and the Medusa Volunteer Fire Company, driver of the Rensselaerville Senior Van, bus driver at Greenville Central Schools. Martin is survived by his wife, Eileen McMahon Begley. He was the father of Elizabeth (Dean) Cook and the late John Begley, whose wife, Sandra, survives; grandfather of Erin, Josh and Daniel Elsasser and Sean Begley; great-grandfather of Liam and Lily; brother of Michael and Sylvie Begley; also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville. The Funeral Mass will be offered on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Church, 4987 State Route 81, Greenville. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Catskill.
