Obituary of Edna Mae Mc Aneny-Low
GREENVILLE – Edna Mae McAneny-Low, age 89, passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at St. Peter’s Hospital after a sudden illness. Born in Jersey City, NJ on September 8, 1923, she was daughter of the late Charles and Sophie Stegmuller Mesow, and step-daughter of the late Martha Lawson Mesow. Edna moved to Freehold at age 6 with her family. She graduated from Greenville Central School. Edna was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard, serving as a SPAR during World War II. She worked as a clerk at the former Pioneer Insurance Company, in hospitality at the former Breezy Knolls, as a sales clerk for many years at the former Von’s Department Store in Greenville, and lastly at Just Kids in Catskill. Edna was a member of the United Methodist Church of Greenville & Norton Hill, UMW, the Greenville Historical Society, and the Greenville American Legion Post 291. She loved sewing, quilting and traveling.
Edna is survived by four children, Linda (Thomas) Sutton, Leonard (Laurie) McAneny, Donald (Sandra) McAneny and Sheryl (Eddie) Baron; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Betty McAneny; many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and step-mother, Edna was predeceased by her husbands, Leonard McAneny and John Low; and her brothers, David and Charles Mesow.
Calling hours will be Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m. at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 Route 81, Greenville. The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home, followed by burial with military honors in Greenville Cemetery.
