Obituary of Anthony Ventola
CORNWALLVILLE – Anthony Ventola, age 91, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, February 17, 2013 in his residence, surrounded by his loving family. Born in New York City on March 18, 1921, he was one of twelve children born to the late Sabino and Giaconda Nicodemi Ventola. He was raised with his siblings in East Harlem. Mr. Ventola was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Military Police. He was honorably discharged and received the Good Conduct Medal. Following service, he married the former Joanna “Jenny” Nusca. They had two children, and the young family moved to Bethpage, Long Island, where they resided for many years, during which Mr. Ventola served as a Little League manager. Mr. Ventola was self-employed in the sanitation business, retiring in 1977. Since 1987, Mr. and Mrs. Ventola have made their home in Cornwallville. He was an active communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Cairo, and previously of St. Martin of Tours Church in Bethpage. Mr. Ventola was an avid fan of the New York Yankees.
In addition to Jenny, his wife of 64 years, survivors include his two children, Anthony Ventola (Phyllis Gilmore) and Gia Ventola (David Hutchins); three grandchildren, Christina Ventola Petersen (Erik), Gianna and Mathew Hutchins; two brothers, John and Ben Ventola; many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville. Funeral Mass will be offered on Thursday at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 35 Church Street, Cairo, followed by burial with military honors in Cornwallville Cemetery.
