Obituary of Stanley E. McCafferty

GREENVILLE – Stanley Ernest McCafferty, 77, passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, January 5, 2025 to be with his Lord Jesus, surrounded by his family, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Stanley was born in Catskill on April 29, 1947, a son of the late Vernon and Marjorie Moore McCafferty.  After completing his Business degree at Albany Business College, he had an opportunity to take over the family dairy farm.  He retired from farming and worked for NYSDOT in Cairo, retiring again in 2014.

Stanley loved the Lord and wanted all to know and trust in Him.  He sat diligently at his kitchen table, reading his Bible, even up to his final days.  Stanley never met a stranger he would shy away from.  He is remembered for always helping others, especially his surrounding neighbors and friends.  Stanley was at his happiest when outside and working on his multiple projects.  He was grateful for the help he received from neighbors and friends with food and rides during his short period of medical treatments.  The family sends a special thank you to The Community Hospice for their guidance.

Stanley is survived by his wife of more than 46 years, Debra; and children, Kelly (Justin) Schettini, Cindy (Nathan) Hempel, Lori McCafferty, and Justin McCafferty; grandson, Woody Schettini; sister, Irene (Skip) Truesdell; nephews, Chad (Amy) Goodfellow, Darren (late wife, Kim); many cousins, other nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, January 9th at 2:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Westerlo, 618 State Route 143, Westerlo, followed by a light reception.  Visitation will take place at the church at 2 p.m. for a half-hour prior to the service.  Spring burial will be in Medusa Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are greatly appreciated to the First Baptist Church of Westerlo where he was a member (http://www.westerlobaptist.com/give), the Medusa Volunteer Fire Company where he was a volunteer in his earlier years, or the New York Oncology Community Cancer Foundation (https://newyorkoncology.networkforgood.com/projects/167400-nyoh-community-cancer-foundation).
