Obituary of Sondra A. Muller
Sondra “Sandy” Muller of Cairo passed away at home on Friday, December 19, 2024.
Sandy was born in Catskill and raised in East Islip, NY. She graduated from East Islip High School in 1972 and went on to get her RN in 1975. She served in the United States Air Force from 1980 – 1982. After serving in the military, Sandy formed her own Home Care Nursing Agency.
In 1994 Sandy and her wife Cathi Annese, made Cairo their home and built a lovely life together. Sandy was a dedicated environmentalist and animal advocate her whole life. She proudly went through the Girl Scout program from Brownies to Senior Scout, receiving the highest honor of First Class Scout in 1972.
1992 was the year Sandy and Cathi created Flora & Fauna Friends of the Earth, a non profit Animal Rescue & Environmental Organization. Flora & Fauna’s 4-H Group was formed by Sandy and Cathi in 1995. Flora & Fauna’s 4-H which focuses on Community Service, The Environment, Public Presentations and small farm animals is still quite active today and will continue fulfilling Sandy’s dream of educating youth.
Her favorite hobbies were drawing, crafting and enjoying nature. She especially loved her Cardinals and Hummingbirds. She cherished her 4-H members, and loved seeing them grow from a quiet, shy child to a confident, strong young adult.
Sandy was predeceased by her father, R. Eugene Muller and her beloved God Parents ,Jackie and Frank Fabrizio.
She is survived by her loving wife of 37 years Catherine Annese, her mother Frances Muller, brother Eric Muller (Patricia) as well as her nephews Christian & Phillip Muller who were the apples of her eyes.
In lieu of flowers her loved ones have requested that donations be made in her memory to fund the building of the Rasmussen Outdoor Classroom in Cornell Cooperative Extension Siuslaw Model Forest in Acra, NY. The ROC will serve as a site for many youth programs in the beautiful forest that Sandy loved. Memorial calling hours will be held on Saturday, December 28th from 1 to 3 pm at Resurrection Lutheran Church 186 Main Street, Cairo, NY with a memorial service immedaitely following, officiated by Rev. Victor Nelson.
