**Obituary for Ronald “Ron” James Porter**
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ronald “Ron” James Porter, 75, of Middleburgh, who left this world peacefully at home on Saturday, November 30, 2024, surrounded by his beloved family. Ron was a pillar of strength and love, whose presence will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.
Born on August 25, 1949, Ron was the cherished son of the late Robert J. Porter and Esther M. Lee Porter. He spent his formative years in South Berne, later moving to Westerlo, before finally establishing his home in Middleburgh.
A proud graduate of Berne-Knox-Westerlo High School, class of 1967, he carried the values of hard work and dedication into every aspect of his life. For over 30 years, Ron was the owner and operator of Porter’s Excavating and Concrete, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues and clients alike.
He was passionate about the outdoors, relishing in hunting and fishing adventures, and was a proud member of the Schoharie Valley Game Breeders. Ron found joy in life’s simple pleasures, whether it was attending poultry shows, enjoying spirited games of poker and pinochle with his brothers, nephews, and son, or sharing laughter during casino outings with his daughter.
Ron was predeceased by his beloved wife, Patricia A. Porter; his son, Scott M. Porter; his brother, Garry L. Porter; and his sister, Carol L. Brate.
He is survived by his son, Michael J. (Christine) Porter; daughter, Amy B. (Heath) Bartlett; cherished grandchildren, Samantha K. and Nicholas S. Porter, Lane M. and Lacey M. Bartlett; great-grandson Porter James Bestpitch; and brothers David A. and Dennis R. Porter. Ron's greatest pride was his family, and he held his grandchildren close to his heart.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during calling hours on Thursday, December 5, from 4 to 7 PM at A. J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81 in Greenville.
