Obituary of Pauline A. Stanger
Pauline Stanger, 90, of Greenville, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Monday, August
12, 2024. She was born on November 10, 1933, to the late Frank and Daisy (French) Wrobbel. She
was the 2nd of 8 children, and grew up in West Hempstead, NY with summers out at their Bay house
in Flanders. Pauline graduated from Hempstead HS in 1951 along with her cousin and life-long
friend, Joan Wrobbel Adams. Pauline was employed as a bank teller and was out with friends, when
she met the love of her life, Eldon “Jeff” Stanger. They were married in February, 1954.
Pauline reluctantly moved with Jeff and their 3 oldest children, away from Long Island and her
beloved family to upstate New York. In 1961 they bought their home in Greenville and raised seven
children there. Pauline was a devout Catholic, a “no-nonsense” but loving mother who instilled the
importance of family and faith that has influenced her children and grandchildren to this day. In
addition to raising her family, she worked for many years as a teacher’s aide and “Bus Note Lady” at
the Elementary School. Pauline loved to dance, and Jeff was her favorite partner. She is now free to
join him and the other members of the original “Circle 8” Square Dance Club in Heaven.
Pauline leaves us, her children, to mourn her passing--Linda Kulle, Michael Stanger, Terry (Bud)
Bear, Paula (Bud) Malone, Barbara (Mark) Lamb, Eileen (Paul) Clifton, Craig (Charlene) Stanger; her
grandchildren, Christine, Christopher, Jeremy, Ryan, Nicholas, Jaclyn, Jenna, Jeffrey, Ian, Hayley,
Madisyn, Alexis, Cameron and 11 great grandchildren; her sisters, Shirley, Edith and Barbara and
her brothers, Richard and Donald. She was predeceased by her sister Doris and brother Raymond.
A very special thanks to those who helped Mom live her best life when she was no longer herself.
Linda Andresen, Jodi Corbett, and Diane Leonard; Amy Shoe-Smith of Cairo Family Practice; Dr.
Andy Coates and the staff of Albany Medical Center for their excellent and supportive care.
