Obituary of Irene S. Tanner
RENSSELAERVILLE – Irene S. Tanner, 87, passed away on Monday, January 21, 2013 at St. Peter’s Hospital after a sudden illness. Born on May 12, 1925 at home in Livingstonville, she was daughter of the late Orlando and Ida Fancher Scoville. Irene was a graduate of Middleburgh High School. She worked at the Army Depot in Schenectady in her early years. After raising her family, Irene went to work at Camp Cass for the New York State Division for Youth. She was promoted to the central office in Albany and retired in the early 1990’s as Assistant Supervisor of Finance. Irene was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Rensselaerville, where she served in many offices. She also was an active member of the Clarke White Unit #589 of the American Legion Auxiliary, and was Department of New York Past President. Irene was a member of Tri-Town VFW Post Auxiliary, the Rensselaerville Seniors and assisted with the Helderberg Seniors Meal Site at Hiawatha Grange.
Irene was the mother of Candace (Ralph) Ruland and the late Richard G. Tanner, whose wife, Christine Tanner Yarno survives. She is the grandmother of Travis and Heather Ruland, and is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. In addition to her parents and son, Irene was predeceased by her husband, Niles C. Tanner, and her brother, Raymond Scoville.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville, where the Clarke White Unit # 589 of the American Legion Auxiliary will conduct a service at 6:30 p.m. The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church in Rensselaerville. Burial will be conducted privately in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Trinity Episcopal Church, the Rensselaerville Ambulance Squad, or the American Legion Auxiliary Foundation will be appreciated.
