Kuhar, Mary
GUILDERLAND – Mary Kuhar, 96, formerly of Rensselaerville, passed away on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Guilderland Center Nursing Home after a long illness. Born in Olyphant, PA on October 26, 1916, she was daughter of the late Mitro and Efrona “Frances” Koropehak Swatkowski. Mary was raised and educated in Olyphant. She moved to Bridgeport, CT as a young woman and worked at Sikorsky Aircraft, where she met her husband. She then worked at Remington Arms, before retiring to Rensselaerville. Mary loved playing Bingo, and frequently attended the senior meals at Hiawatha Grange. She liked to travel, visiting Russia, Hawaii and Florida. Mary was very religious, attending church regularly until she was no longer able.
Mary is survived by one brother, Nicholas (Myra) Swatkowski of Westerly, PA; sisters-in-law, Anna Kuhar and Marie Bogue; her niece and caretaker, Rosemarie Kuhar; nephew, Barry Kuhar; niece, Nancy Dempster; grandnephew, Micah Kuhar; several other nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mary is predeceased by her husband, John Kuhar, Jr., who died September 8, 2012; and her siblings, John and Michael Swatkowski and Pearl Beckage.
Funeral services will be conducted at All Saints Orthodox Church, followed by burial in the church cemetery, by the Michael Wargo, Jr. Funeral Home, 812 E. Scott St., Olyphant, PA 18447 (1-570-489-3962). In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Rensselaerville Library, F.O.W. Fund, P.O. Box 188, Rensselaerville, NY 12147 will be appreciated.
