So saddened to hear about Gary's passing. I truly enjoyed playing music at Sunny Hill, chatting and just hanging out with Gary. When I played the music for the fireworks Gary always made sure I changed the music at just the right moment. Great times and many fond memories. Thank you Gary for everything. You are missed.

We had great time with Gary & Libby during Bike Week in Daytona Beach 2006. Gary bought a beautiful bright yellow Triumph trike. Bud got to test drive it and I lost my sunglasses while riding as passenger. Libby and I would ride in the back of a Chrysler Sebring Gary drove while Bud would pull the emergency brake sending the car sideways into parking lots and exit ramps. Those guys had it timed for a spectacular spin into a parking space. What a blast!

Gary has always been larger than life. His welcoming smile, delivery of his jokes, love for the USA, need for speed, love for family and friends; everything about him is special. He made SunnyHill a home for all, not just a vacation destination. I will miss him, I know we all will. Friday fireworks with both of us in our red, white and blue was always a high point for me. He always laughed at my Long Island accent, and for various reasons nicknamed me Crazy Mary.
Funny story, a few years ago he was parked in front of Armae Hall, as he always does, and I noticed his license plate and commented that it was a perfect vanity plate for him. He gave me a questioning look and I pointed out his plate said Great One, Gr 81. He told me it is a plate for Greenville numbered 81; he never realized it read that way.
Great one, that’s Gary.
John, myself, Valerie and Heather send our very deepest condolences. May he rest in peace, fly high and fast.
Love, the Abbene family

We were so saddened to learn of Gary’s passing. Our thoughts, prayers and love go out to the entire Nicholsen family. The amount of lives Gary touched and the wonderful memories he gave to countless families, including our own, will live on forever. His endless quest to make each and every guest feel welcome and his efforts to continue to enhance everyone’s Sunny Hill experience did not go unnoticed. Gary was an institution at Sunny Hill and the epitome of what Sunny Hill stands for. We consider Gary a part of our family and often reference him and Sunny Hill throughout the year. We were honored to have known him and spend time with him and will always cherish the memories he gave us. We will continue to draw upon those memories to bring us happiness each time we come to visit Sunny Hill. As Gary would say, this is not “Goodbye” but rather “Until we meet again”. The Day Family

My family and I were deeply saddened when we heard of the passing of our good friend, Gary. There are so many memories running through my mind now , of all the times spent with Gary. . . Most recently, we spent our whole lunch at the pavilion just chatting , and of course , the usual jokes. We shared memories , back to our childhoods , at Sunny Hill., . our shared friends in Greenville and Freehold. Who can forget the reason that he did not get E Z Pass. So the state would never know how he got from exit 18 to 20 in 15 minutues, when others took over an hour. My family and i are sending our deepest love and compasson to Gail and Wayne and all the family. Keep all the great memories in your heart and mind, as i am doing, right now. Then he will always be here and never forgotten, His spirit will be here , shining brightly, , because of his love and compassion and kindnesses, that he showed to so many., some known and some done silently. He proved the statement, that the greatest gift you can give, is the one you give to someone who can never repay you. . He was truly an exceptional person. A shining light in this world. I will continue to pray for him and your whole family. A candle is glowing in my heart for Gary. Now and for always, Never extinguished. I see his smiling face. and the face of God, smiling at him. . I was deeply saddened to hear about Gary's passing. It is difficult to imagine him not being there this summer. He started our days at Sunny Hill with a good morning visit to our table - and checked with grandson Paul for the daily activities before morning announcements. A highlight for Paul was when Gary forgot the schedule of activities for the day and asked Paul to do the announcements for him! Throughout the day he would stop and talk with us, tell a joke, answer many questions and always asked if we were happy and having a great day! The Nicholsens are the epitome of hospitality and Gary exemplified this with us and all of the guests at Sunny Hill. He will be sorely missed. Sympathy, love and hugs to the Nicholsen family.

Gary, we will miss your greetings when we arrive and the visits to our tables during meals but mostly we’ll miss your wishes to us as we departed on our dreaded last day on the ‘Hill when you would say “Till We Meer Again”.
