Eileen A. Wells Obituary

“One life on this earth is all that we get, whether it is enough or not enough, and the obvious

conclusion would seem to be that at the very least we are fools if we do not live it as fully and

bravely and beautifully as we can.” — Frederick Buechner

Eileen A. Wells passed away peacefully at Greene Meadows Nursing Home on Wednesday, June 5, 2024.

She was born on February 27, 1939 in Jackson Heights, New York to Joseph and Eileen (nee

Corcoran) Buell.

During her youth and young adulthood, Eileen’s family vacationed at Shepard’s Farm on the

outskirts of Greenville. It was during one of these vacations where she would meet her future

husband, Richard Wells during one of his infamous A-Bar-A horseback rides.

Rich and Eileen were married on December 3, 1966 in Jackson Heights, New York and moved

into their home on Sunset Road in Greenville shortly thereafter.

Eileen was a lifetime member of the Greenville Volunteer Fire Department and a founding

member of the Greenville Rescue Squad. She was also a member of the Greenville Ladies

Auxiliary. Eileen was not one to sit idly by, she worked for many years at Greenville Central

School during the school year as an aide and filled her summers working at the Sunny Hill

Clubhouse.

Eileen is survived by her two sons Donald Wells of Bandera, Texas and Richard Wells (Kristin) of

Greenville; two grandsons Griffin and Brady Wells who knew her as “Next Door Momom” and

were the light of her life.

She was predeceased by her husband Richard Wells, brother Joseph Buell, sister-in-law Ann

Buell and her parents. There is no doubt her first stop in Heaven will be at the Rainbow Bridge

to reunite with her many cherished pets who passed before her.

The family would like to thank friends and family that have reached out and those that have

helped during this time. A very special thank you to our dear friends, Lucy Masterson and Jane

Furko.

Per her wishes, Eileen has been privately cremated. There will be calling hours on Thursday, June 13th

from 4 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 4 p.m. at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home in Greenville.

Following there will be a reception at the Greenville Fire House for those who would like to join us to

share memories of Eileen.

Eileen was never a fan of flowers, so we ask that in lieu of flowers or a donation, that you take a

moment to hug your child, grandchild, friend or take a moment, hour or day for yourself, as

time is precious and is the greatest gift of all.
