Obituary of Brian McGuirk
GREENVILLE – Bernard Joseph “Brian” McGuirk, Sr., 91, passed away on Friday, May 10, 2024.
Born in Ballybay, County Monaghan, Ireland on May 26, 1932, he moved to the Bronx in his 20’s, in the early 1950’s. He was employed as a bus driver by the MTA in New York City. Following retirement, he moved to Greenville in the mid 1980’s. Brian was a member of the Greenville Irish American Club and the Knights of Columbus, Our Lady of Knock Council 6439 in East Durham. He was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church in Greenville. Brian was honored by the American Red Cross for donating 14 gallons of blood. He enjoyed watching Notre Dame football, drinking a Budweiser or a Pabst Blue Ribbon, and watching old movies.
Brian was a hard-working, old-school, Irish immigrant who will be remembered for his colorful personality.
Brian is survived by his daughter-in-law, Carol McGuirk; grandchildren, Brendan and Melanie McGuirk; great-grandson, Colin McGuirk. He was predeceased by his wife, Patricia “Amy” McGuirk; daughters, Bernadette and Patricia, and son, Bernard McGuirk, Jr.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, May 28th from 4 to 6 p.m. at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville. Funeral Mass will be offered on Wednesday, May 29th at 9 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Church, 4987 State Route 81, Greenville, followed by burial in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Huntington.
