Obituary of Charles W. Burns

RAVENA – Charles W. Burns, age 94, passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at his home

and surrounded by his loving family. Born in Ravena, on May 18, 1929, he was the son of the

late Charles and Beatrice Burns. Charlie was a graduate of Ravena-Coeymans High School,

class of 1947. Charlie worked multiple jobs to support his family, retiring from the Village of

Ravena in 1991, after over 35 years of service. Charlie was a lifelong resident, and a

communicant of St. Patrick’s Church in Ravena. He was also the caretaker of the St. Patrick’s

Cemetery for over 60 years.

Charlie is survived by his five children, Jo Ann Firstiun (Carl), Mary Ann Leonardo, Debbie

Marks (Joe), Joseph Burns (Teri), Linda Thron, and his daughter-in-law, Cindy Burns; siblings,

Barbara Ann Veino, and Helen Burns; 8 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great

grandchild, many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, Charlie is

predeceased by his beloved wife of 64 years, Josephine, his son Charles “Yaz”, and his brother

William. The family would like to thank Carolyn Terwilliger and Cathie Persico for taking such

good care of Charlie over the past two years.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass at St. Patrick’s Church on Tuesday,

April 30, at 11 a.m., followed by burial in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of

flowers, memorial donations to St. Patrick’s Church, 21 Main Street, Ravena, NY 12143 will be
