Obituary of Anna J. Mullen

GREENVILLE – Anna J. Mullen passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, on the eve of her 92nd birthday.

          Anna was born in Brooklyn on February 29, 1932, a daughter of the late Patrick and Annie McCabe Mullen.  She grew up in Ireland and returned to the United States at age 16.  Anna was employed for more than 40 years as an executive secretary at Shearson Lehman in Manhattan.  Upon her retirement, she moved to Greenville.  Anna then worked part-time as a waitress at Gavin’s Golden Hill Resort in East Durham for a few years.  She was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church in Greenville, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister.  Anna was a member of the Greenville Irish-American Club, and served as the Grand Marshal of the club’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade several years ago.  She also was a member of the Greene County Women’s League.

          Anna is survived by her siblings, Jimmy Mullen, Paddy Mullen, and Sheila Hamilton; her son, Paul O’Donnell; many nieces, nephews, and friends.  In addition to her parents, Anna was predeceased by her siblings, Bridie Sylvester, Mary McGlynn, Kathleen Sullivan, and Francis Mullen.

          Calling hours will be Sunday, March 3rd from 1 until 3 p.m. at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville.  Funeral Mass will be offered on Monday, March 4th at 11 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Church, 4987 State Route 81, Greenville, followed by burial in Greenville Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Greene County Women’s League – Cancer Patient Aid, P.O.
