Obituary of Susan B. Carhart

RAVENA – Susan B. Carhart, 93, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 19, 2024.

          Born in Ravena on April 10, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Lloyd and Grace Bainbridge Phillips.  Sue was a graduate of the old Ravena High School and was a lifelong Ravena resident.  She worked briefly for New York Telephone before becoming a bus driver for Ravena-Coeymans Selkirk Central School District, retiring several years ago after 20 years of service.  Sue also worked for many years as a waitress at many former restaurants in the Ravena area, including Barke’s, The Brick Oven, and The Squire Inn, to name just a few.  In her younger years, Sue enjoyed bowling.  She was a member of VFW Post 9594 Ladies Auxiliary, and the Ravena Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary.

          Sue is survived by four children, Steven Blood, Scott (Wendy) Blood, Carol Abby (Wayne) Fuhrman, and David (Kathy) Wolfe; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren.  Sue was the youngest of the nine Phillips siblings, and is survived by one brother, John Phillips, many nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents and seven siblings, Sue is predeceased by her husband, Kenneth Carhart.

          Sue will be buried privately at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to VFW Post 9594 and/or Ladies Auxiliary, 13 Whitbeck Street, Ravena, NY 12143, or to the Northeastern Association of the Blind, 301 Washington Avenue, Albany, NY 12206 will be appreciated.  Condolence page is available at ajcunninghamfh.com.
