Obituary of James Cullie
EAST DURHAM – James Cullie, age 72, passed away on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at his residence after a long illness. Born in Greenock, Scotland on November 4, 1940, he was son of the late James and Jean Aird Cullie. Mr. Cullie came to the United States at age 14 and settled in New York. He worked for many years in the textile industry in New York, retiring from Vogart in 2002. Mr. Cullie was a member and Past Commander of Durham Valley American Legion Post 1416, and past Greene County Commander; member of Kedemah Masonic Lodge; member of Cyprus Shriners Shepherd’s Club; member of the Durham Historical Committee; administrator of the Durham Reading Room; past chairman of the Durham Task Force Parade Committee.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Kiernan Cullie, who he married on October 14, 1967 in St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church in New York City; one brother, Eugene (Terri) Cullie and two nephews, Jason and Justin Cullie; many cousins in the United States and many loving family members in Scotland, England and Australia.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville. Family and friends will assemble on Monday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.
