Benjamin Oravsky Greenville- Benjamin Oravsky (95) died at the Adirondack Medical Center-Uihlein in Lake Placid, NY on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009 with his family at his side after a brief illness where he lived for the past month, and resided at Albany County Nursing Home for nine years previously. He was born on May 11, 1914 in Manville, New Jersey. He was the son of John & Mary (Felipek) Oravsky formerly of Czechoslovakia. Ben was a resident of Greenville for most of his life. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1936 to 1937 as a machinist. During his years of employment, he owned and operated a residential farm, sawmill at his residence, tree cutting business, was employed many years with Peter Kiewit construction as foreman on the major highways in Albany county and a member of Construction & General Labors Local 190 Union of Glenmont; and owned and operated a well-drilling business. He loved the outdoors, fishing and hunting, and always had a helping hand for relatives and friends. He is predeceased besides his parents, by his wife, Dorothy Bella Fisher whom he married April 7, 1945, two sons; James & Timothy Oravsky; four brothers, Paul, Stephen, Anthony & Frank. He is survived by three sons; Ralph Oravsky (Cynthia) of Hannacroix, Shane Adams of Davie, FL & Thomas Oravsky (Donna) of Voorheesville; four daughters, Shirley Lewis (David Gahr) of FL, Linda Millious of Saranac Lake, Sandra Van Hoesen (Bob smith) of Voorheesville and Diane Millious (Barry) of Ravena; 21 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. Calling hours will be held on Sat., Dec. 5, 2009 from noon to 2:00PM at the Cunningham Funeral home in Greenville, NY. A funeral service will start a 1:45PM with burial immediately following in the Westerlo Rural Cemetery, Westerlo, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Research foundation.
