Obituary of Walter H. Schloen
PRESTON HOLLOW – Walter H. Schloen, 91, passed away on Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at St. Peter’s Hospital.
Born in Ridgewood, Queens, on September 20, 1932, he was son of the late Henry and Henrietta Grimsehl Schloen, and husband of the late Alice M. Kleinsim Schloen, who passed away on April 11, 2011. Walter was an Army veteran of the Korean War, serving with the Military Police. He lived on Long Island for many years and taught Auto Body Repair at BOCES in Bellmore, retiring 35 years ago. Walter was a member of the German Music Committee. Upon moving to Preston Hollow, he volunteered in his community, driving the Rensselaerville Ambulance and the senior transport vehicle, taking seniors to medical appointments. He was a member of the former Tri-Town Memorial VFW Post 7229 in Oak Hill. Walter was an avid outdoorsman and hunter of deer, duck, and rabbit.
Walter is survived by his daughters, Ellen (Wayne) Faltin, Linda (Thomas) Abramoske, and Carol-Ann (Joseph) Peralta; his godson, Robert Kuhsel; his grandchildren, Krista Kulp, Christian Peralta, and Allison Peralta; his great-grandchildren, Leo Peralta, Chloe Kulp, and Sophia who is due in January.
Calling hours will be Sunday, October 22nd from 12 noon until 4 p.m. at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville. A funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. by Rev. Arlene P. Beechert. Private cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Dystonia Medical Research Foundation (DMRF), Columbia-Greene Humane Society, Mohawk-Hudson Humane Society, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital will be appreciated.
