Obituary of Gerard McCarthy

Gerard McCarthy, affectionately known as Jerry, was born to Gerard and Veronica McCarthy on January 9, 1959.  Jerry lived an adventurous—albeit shortened life after a horrific motorcycle accident which left him largely incapacitated almost a decade ago.  Jerry passed away at the “youngish” age of 64 in the early hours of May 5, 2023.

Jerry and his nuclear family moved to the Catskills from Brooklyn, NY after grammar school. It was here in the famous Catskills that Jerry would graduate and write most of his life story. A graduate of Catskill H.S, Jerry went on to work for Stiefel Labs in East Durham, N.Y. as a machinist. Following a decade long career at Stiefel’s, he moved on to become a local handyman in and around Greene and Columbia Counties working odd jobs; doing what he wanted, when he wanted. Jerry was the eldest of his siblings, Jimmy and Kevin.

Jerry worked, played, and ultimately lived his life to its fullest.

Jerry was a man with many talents, which allowed him to meet with and engage in a diverse abundance of men and women which he lovingly and frequently referred to as Friends. Jerry was always someone who was ready to help when called upon, but even more so—he would not stop until the problem was solved.

While Jerry didn’t go without his faults—as no man does—he loved his Family and Friends with his whole heart. Jerry will be truly missed but it is a blessing to know that he is at peace, that what once was trapped is now free to watch over those who loved him.
