Obituary of Helen E. Germond
CONESVILLE – Helen Eva Germond, age 90, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at Robinson Terrace in Stamford after a long illness. Born in Conesville on August 3, 1922, she was daughter of the late Nelson and Marian Lovell Buel. Helen was a graduate of Gilboa School. She worked as a secretary and bookkeeper at the former Manorkill Creamery. Following her marriage to Ira Roger “Roddie” Germond, they worked the family farm. After her daughter was grown, Helen worked at Stiefel Labs in East Durham and for the Conesville Board of Elections. She served for many years as secretary/treasurer of the Manorkill Rural Cemetery Association and the former Manorkill Methodist Church, where she also was an active member of the Ladies Aid Society. Helen enjoyed cooking, sewing and leather craft. She also enjoyed camping and traveling with her husband, including two trips to Alaska.
Survivors include one sister, Loretta Lounsbury of Oak Hill; one sister-in-law, Geraldine Buel of Gainesville, Fla.; her son-in-law, Louis Lebel of Middleburgh; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Helen was predeceased by her husband, Roddie; her daughter, Joyce Lebel; and her siblings, Irene Brown, Robert, Margaret, Donald and Ivan Buel.
A calling hour will be Sunday, November 4 from 12 noon to 1 p.m. at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville. The funeral will begin at 1 p.m., followed by burial in Manorkill Rural Cemetery.
