Obituary of Irene E. Williams

Williams, E. Irene EAST DURHAM - E. Irene Williams, age 93, passed away Thursday, October 4, 2012 at Atria Guilderland where she had resided for several years. She was born September 14, 1919 at her paternal grandparents' home on Wright Street in the Town of Durham, daughter of the late T. Merritt and Ruth E. Ingalls Elliott. Irene was a homemaker and her greatest joy was spending time with family and friends. She was married for 65 years to the love of her life, George E. Williams who predeceased her in 2006. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Greenville & Norton Hill, the UMC Women's Society and served as a Sunday school teacher for many years. Irene also enjoyed serving the community as a Greene County 4-H leader for more than 15 years. Irene is survived by two sons, Wayne (Lois) Williams of Boxford, MA and Kenneth (Jeanne) Williams of Schuylerville; a daughter, Alayne (Allyn) Wright of Medusa; nine grandchildren, Brad Williams of Scituate, MA, Brian Williams of Merrimac, MA, Brent Williams of Yarmouth, ME, Beth Lounsbury of Westerlo, Lynette Terrell of Rensselaerville, Barbara Hewlett of Massena, Travis Smigel of Freehold, Aaron Williams of Brookline, MA and Jennifer Williams of North Easton, MA; 21 great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty McAneny of Norton Hill; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Irene was predeceased by two sisters, Clarice Adamson and Muriel Garrison and three brothers, Adrian, Robert and Ronald Elliott. The funeral will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at the United Methodist Church of Greenville & Norton Hill, 5830 State Route 81, Norton Hill. Burial will be private at Greenville Cemetery.
