Obituary of Otto F. Metzger

MEDUSA - Otto F. Metzger, 86, passed away on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at the Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany after an illness of several months. Born on June 18, 1926 in New York City, he was son of the late Otto F. and Elizabeth Mess Metzger. Otto was an Army veteran of World War II, receiving the Silver Star and Bronze Star, among other medals. Following the war, he worked for Rheingold Brewery in Brooklyn, and retired to Medusa. Otto was a communicant of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Oak Hill, and was a member of many organizations, including the Rensselaerville Seniors, Elks, Masons, Shriners, Durham Valley Post 1416 American Legion, and Tri-Town Memorial Post 7229 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Otto is survived by nieces and nephews, including Edwin C., Donald P., Glenn A., and William B. Wachter, and Martin Dratz, who was like a brother to Otto. Otto was predeceased by his beloved wife of 58 years, Nina A. Jansen Metzger on November 22, 2008, and his brother, Edwin N. Wachter. Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 9 p.m. at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville. The funeral will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Oak Hill, followed by cremation. Burial of ashes of both Otto and Nina will be at Saratoga National Cemetery at a later date.
