Obituary of Margaret T. Dowd

Margaret Teresa Dowd-Horton (nee Maguire) aged 86 of Fort Pierce, Florida passed away Saturday October 2nd, 2021. She was born September 25th 1935 in Glangevlin, Co Cavan, Ireland. Daughter of Patrick and Rose Ann Maguire. Loving sister of Susan (dec John) Fitzgibbon, brothers Johnny, Eddie (Betty), Tom (Bridget) Maguire. Margaret immigrated to America in 1954 where she met her husband Vincent Horan. They resided in Manhattan and they went on to have 7 children: Rose (Michael) Leahy, Michael (Marie) Horan, John (dec Dawn) Horan, Denise Calabrese, Maureen (Michael) O’Riordan, Eddie Horan, Lisa (Nick) Paschenko, and Susie Horan; grandchildren: Sean (Alana) Leahy, Mairead O'Shea, Katrina Leahy, Vincent and Maureen Horan, Rory (Julie) Tawny, Dillon, and Ryan Horan, the late Daniel O’Riordan, Sinead (Mike) Forgari and Patrick (Mallory) O’Riordan, Ann Marie, Kevin, and Kristopher Boyle, Brian Horan and Thomas Mitchell; and great grandchildren: Trent Leahy, Fiona, Ashlynn, and Declan Horan, and John, Nora and Caitlin O’Shea. Margaret resided in the town of Greenville, NY for more than 30 years with her loving second husband Vincent (Grandpa) Dowd. They were longtime members of The Knights of Columbus in East Durham as well as the Irish American Club. They attended St John the Baptist Church where they met very many good friends. Margaret enjoyed gardening; she loved her flowers and even grew vegetables. Margaret took many trips back to Ireland with her children and grandchildren visiting family and friends. She even went back for the West Cavan school reunion. Margaret loved baking for people and most especially her famous porter cake. She enjoyed knitting hats and blankets for newborns. Margaret lived in Monroe, NY and enjoyed going to Whispering Creek, FL every winter where she met her third husband Tim Horton. They lived together happily until her passing. Visitation will be held AJ Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville on Saturday October 9th, 2021 from 11am-1pm. Mass will be followed thereafter at St John the Baptist Church at 4987 NY-81, Greenville, NY 12083 from 1:30pm-2:30pm. Burial will take place at 3pm Greenville Cemetery, 11266 NY-32, Greenville, NY 12083. In lieu of flowers please plant a tree in her honor.
