Obituary of Catherine A. Garrahy

FREEHOLD, NY - Catherine A. Garrahy, 70, passed away Sunday morning, August 5, 2012 in the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany after a long illness. Born in Galway, Ireland on August 20, 1941, she was daughter of the late James Joseph and Mary Ann Horan Gilmore. Mrs. Garrahy immigrated to New York City with her family at age 9. She lived in New Jersey for many years. Mrs. Garrahy was employed by APA Transport for 17 years, retiring in 2002 as office supervisor. She came to Freehold then and worked part-time as a waitress at Gavin's Golden Hill Inn. Mrs. Garrahy was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church in Greenville, and a member and financial secretary of the Greenville Irish-American Club. Survivors include her children, Cathy Moore (late Daniel Richer), Daniel Garrahy (Dafna) and Kenneth Garrahy (Karen); grandchildren, Kelly & Scott Moore, Evan & Laurel Garrahy; sisters, Bridget Gaughan (Pat), Julia Whalen (Thomas), Margaret Gilligan (James); sisters-in-law, Nora Gilmore and Rose Gilmore Enright (Pat); nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Garrahy is predeceased by two brothers, John and Vincent Gilmore; two sisters, Marion Stevens (late Floyd) and Christine Wrynn. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville, NY 12083. Funeral Mass will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, 4987 State Route 81, Greenville, followed by burial in Greenville Cemetery.
