Edward Schindler

Obituary of Edward J. Schindler

Edward Schindler - Hudson, NY On April 18th, just shy of his 87th birthday, Ed Schindler passed in peace after days of the constant presence of his children and grandchildren. Born in Albany in 1934, where he attended high school and went on to study Construction Engineering from Hudson Valley Community College. He spent his life working for the state of NY. Initially as an inspector for the State University Construction Fund, and later re-trained himself on computers and worked for the State University of New York (SUNY) in their central IT office. As a young man he was an avid fisherman and hunter, developing a life-long and profound appreciation for critical importance for the preservation of nature and our wetlands. He was a Master Gardener who loved roses, and member of both the National Audubon Society and Sierra Club. He was a ferocious reader and true intellectual with deep interests in botany and US history. His passions were infectious, and he was incredibly proud of his family. His granddaughters, Courtney and Hannah Brandow described him to a tee when they said: "Our Pepa was everyone's largest supporter. Every accomplishment was shared with everyone he came across. Family was his biggest joy and we are so thankful to have spent his last days with him. He loved history and gave us our love for learning. We owe our love of gardening to him, though no one will grow roses like he did. We will miss him greatly and hope to be fishing with him again one day." He is deeply missed and forever loved by his daughter Beth, son Kurt and grandchildren Sydney and Isabella Schindler and Courtney, Hannah and Pepa’s proud US Marine Kurt Brandow. His family will hold a small private ceremony for him at Indian Lake in the Adirondacks, a place he held dear. Nothing would mean more for him for those who wish to give back than to plant a butterfly bush, a rose or to give to Ducks Unlimited, The Sierra Club or the National Audubon Society. His family is eternally grateful for the years of care provided by the New York State Fireman's Home. Arrangements by A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, Greenville.
