Obituary of Helena C. Kosorek

Helena C. Kosorek, 69, passed away on Sunday February 28, 2021 at St. Peter’s Hospital. She was born on December 28, 1951 in Yonkers to the late Petro and Anna Zigabarra Karas. After graduating from high school in Yonkers, she attended SUNY Oswego, where she received a Bachelor’s in Sociology. In 1973, she married Raymond J. Kosorek at Virginia Beach. In 1974, they moved to Greenville, where they built their home and raised their two sons. Helena worked as a Foster Care Case Worker for Greene and Albany County, and then became a substitute teacher at Greenville Central School and received her teaching certification. She was the first chairman of the new Capital District SCOPE, Shooters Committee On Political Education. She was an Advocate for Election Integrity, and she was on the Board of Directors for the Gun Owners of America – New York. Helena was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she was always researching and learning new things, she loved to write, and wrote for the Greenville Local, and she was very health conscious and was always trying to find holistic solutions. Helena is survived by her husband, Raymond J. Kosorek; her sons, Jonathan (Amy) and Patrick Kosorek; her granddaughters, Kenzie and Maddie Kosorek; and by many good friends and neighbors. Calling hours will be held on Saturday March 6th from 1 to 3pm at the A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, Greenville, followed by a Time of Remembrance at 3pm. Burial will take place privately in the springtime. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of one’s choice. Condolences can be posted at ajcunninghamfh.com.
