Obituary of Rebecca L. Parent

Rebecca Mahler Parent, 87 years, of Cornwallville NY passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on November 4th 2020 after a brief battle with cancer. Rebecca was born September 2, 1933 in Columbus County, North Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Henry Grady and Lalan Lennon. Rebecca graduated from Whiteville High School. She later graduated from Columbia Bible College in Columbia, SC with a Bachelor of Arts in Education. She married Bruce Reay Mahler Sr. in 1955 and together they established Good Tidings Fellowship Inc. in Cornwallville, NY where they shared their love of Christ through youth and adult ministry until his passing in 1981. She went on to marry Clifford Parent in 1982 and they continued the work of Good Tidings until 2000, ministering in the community, and sharing the love of the Lord through their gracious hospitality. Her greatest joys included opening her home to family and friends, hosting dinners, and tending to her beautiful gardens and flowers. Rebecca is survived by her three children Reay (Amy) Mahler, Deborah (Ronald) Truesdell, William Mahler, two step sons James (Miriam) Parent, and Gerald Parent. Sisters Rachel, Margaret, Carol, and Sally, 14 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. Rebecca is predeceased by her parents, siblings Eva, Melba, Henry, Mary and husband Clifford Parent. Her life was spent in service to her Lord first of all, her family, and many friends whose lives she touched through the years. Calling hours will be held on Sunday November 8th from 12pm to 2pm at the A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville. Masks are required at the funeral home, and forty visitors at a time will be allowed inside. A funeral service and burial will be held privately.
