GREENVILLE - Eugene J. Kiefer, age 82, passed away Friday, July 6, 2012 at St. Peter's Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Brooklyn on January 4, 1930, he was son of the late Joseph A. and Louise Mueller Kiefer. Mr. Kiefer was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He moved upstate with his family in 1966. Mr. Kiefer was employed as a machinist at Hannay Reels, Inc. in Westerlo for 28 years, retiring 15 years ago. He was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church and a former member of Greenville American Legion Post 291. Mr. Kiefer was an excellent bowler, enjoyed carpentry and all sports, especially the New York Mets. Mr. Kiefer is survived by his wife, Janet T. Lefrank Kiefer; children, John (Rose) Kiefer of Williamsburg, VA, Robert (Mary Jane) Kiefer of Austin, TX, Karen (Lou) Kraker of Greenville and Dennis (Kimberly) Kiefer of Coxsackie; grandchildren, Michael, David and Jessica Kiefer, Krystyna, Dalton and Adam Kiefer, Seth and Stephanie Kraker, Kacy and Joshua Kiefer; great-grandson, Charlie Kiefer; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Kiefer was predeceased by one brother, Joseph Kiefer. Calling hours will be Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR 81, Greenville. The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by burial with military honors in Greenville Cemetery.
