Obituary of Albert G. Vedder

WESTERLO – Albert G. Vedder, 76, died suddenly Thursday, March 12, 2020 at the Stratton VA Medical Center. Born in the Bronx on June 1, 1943, he was a son of the late Frank and Alberta Werner Vedder. The family moved to Greenville when Al was 10 years old, and he then attended Greenville Central School. Al worked for several years before enlisting in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He served with the Combat Engineers and received a Purple Heart. Following his honorable discharge, he worked for 35 years as an electrician for Penn Central Railroad, Conrail, and retired from CSX in 2003. Al was a 50-year member and Past Commander of Greenville American Legion Post 291, and a member of the former VFW Post. Al is survived by his wife, Michelle French Vedder; son, Matthew Vedder; grandsons, Zane (17), Gavin (14), and Cole (1 ½); siblings, Mary Anne, Fred, and Gerald Vedder; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Al was predeceased by his brother, Frank Vedder Jr. Calling hours will be Thursday, March 19 from 4 to 7 p.m. at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville, with services by Greenville American Legion Post 291 at 6:30 p.m. A graveside service with military honors will be Friday, March 20 at 11 a.m. in Greenville Cemetery.
