Obituary of Margaret O'Neill

Margaret "Marge" O'Neill, 67, of Livingstonville, passed away on Sunday, June 17, 2012 at Ocean Medical Center in Brick, NJ. Marge was born in Brooklyn on Nov. 19, 1944, daughter of the late Margaret Hughes Osbeck Gallagher. Marge and her family moved to Greene County in the early 1970's. She was employed at the former O'Neill's Tavern in East Durham and worked winters at Ski Windham. Marge and George were married in 1977 and took over operation of the tavern soon after. They ran the business until selling it in 1985. Marge then opened O'Neill's Traveling Kitchen, her fish & chips truck, which was a popular attraction at many area festivals. She also catered the dinner for the Middleburgh Rotary Club for many years. Marge opened O'Neill's Cafe in Cairo on July 7, 2007. Having known hard times, Marge was the first to step forward when others needed help, whether it was preparing meals for a hungry family, to purchasing Christmas presents for those less fortunate than her. Her generosity has been an inspiration. Sadly, Marge was predeceased by her husband, George B. O'Neill, on January 13 of this year. She is survived by her children, Sean, Liz, Annie, Liam and Lalena; 18 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; three brothers, John, Eddie and Joe; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. At Marge's request, she has been cremated privately, and there are no calling hours. All are invited to attend a Memorial Mass on Saturday, June 23 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Knock Shrine, 2052 State Route 145 in East Durham, followed by burial of her ashes with George in Winston Cemetery in East Durham. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Greene County Women's League-Cancer Patient Aid, P. O. Box 341, Round Top, NY 12473, or Community Hospice of Columbia-Greene, 47 Liberty Street, Catskill, NY 12414 will be appreciated. Arrangements by A.J. Cunningham Funeral Homes, Inc., Greenville.
