Obituary of Amelia Scofield

CATSKILL - Amelia Bell Scofield, age 99, passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at Kaaterskill Care Center. Amelia, a woman of strength and character, was born and raised in Lambs Corners, Norton Hill on October 13, 1912, daughter of the late Deforest W. and Ethel St. John Bell, and wife of the late Frank E. Scofield, who died in 1964. Amelia and her family resided in Lambs Corners for most of her life. She was a member of the Greenville-Norton Hill United Methodist Church. Amelia was involved in the many "goings on" as she liked to call them. Cooking was not her favorite thing, but she always donated a covered dish to the area fundraisers, bake sales and church dinners that went on in the community. Amelia was an avid reader and not only kept up with community news but also world events. Despite a hearing loss that steadily worsened over the years, she continued to enjoy friends stopping in to visit. She also enjoyed letter writing to family and friends, and missed her lifelong friends, Beulah Joy and Marjorie Ingalls, who preceded her into Heaven. Survivors include her elder son, Ronald Scofield of Stamford, NY and his children, Connie Akersloot (John) of Cairo, NY, Carol A. Lighte (Edward) of Stamford, NY, Cindy Scofield of Cobleskill, NY, Cheryl Deats (Richard) of Howes Cave, NY, Christine Drayton (Keith) of Charleston, SC, Charles Edward Scofield (Jennie) of Schoharie, NY, Janet Tabb of New London, CT; her younger son, Enos Edwin "Ed" Scofield (Rose Marie) of Fort Edward, NY and their children, Bryan Scofield of Wesley Chapel, FL, Kristine Fitzgerald Goggins (Kevin) of Clifton Park, NY, Beth Pechtel (Scott) of South Glens Falls, NY, Edward Fitzgerald (Denise) of Charlotte, NC; 16 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandson; one nephew, Howard E. Bell (Mary) of St. Catherine's, Ontario; 1 great-nephew and 1 great-niece. Calling hours will be Saturday, April 28 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville. The funeral will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Medusa Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the church, PO Box 599, Greenville, NY 12083, or the Medusa Volunteer Fire Company, 28 CR 351, Medusa, NY 12120 will be appreciated. Special thanks to her granddaughter, Connie Akersloot; her lifelong friend, Mary Bear; the staff on the second floor of Kaaterskill Care Center and the Community Hospice of Columbia/Greene for all they did.
