Obituary of Vincent Jude Murtha
EAST DURHAM- Vincent Jude Murtha, age 70, passed away peacefully at home onThursday, January 12, 2012. Born in Bayshore onLong Island, he served in the U.S. Air Force from 1959 to 1963. Mr. Murtha was employed for 34 years as an electronics engineer at Grumman Aerospace inBethpage. He worked in research on the Excursion model for the lunar landing. His name is listed in the Cradle of Aviation Museum in Garden City, with other people fromLong Islandwho contributed to the war effort.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Granelle Murtha; three sons, Sean K. and his fiancée, Laura M. Cavanagh; Daniel V. and James J. Murtha; four grandchildren, Robert E. Murtha, Matthew G. and his wife Tabitha L. Murtha, Cailin E. Murtha and William S. Murtha; 2 great-grandsons, Matthew G. Murtha Jr. and Andrew J. Murtha; one brother, James A. Boyle; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Anna Luxton Murtha, and one sister, Theresa Boyle.
Calling hours will be Monday from 2 to 4 and7to9:30 p.m.at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR 81, Greenville. The funeral will be Tuesday at9:30 a.m.from the funeral home, then to Our Lady of Knock Shrine, 2052 SR 145, East Durham, where the Funeral Mass will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow inSaratogaNationalCemetery.
