Obituary of Oksoon Durr
Mrs. Oksoon Durr, 69, beloved wife of William J. Durr of Cornwallville, NY, passed on surrounded by family and friends, on Thursday, Nov. 10, 2011, after a long hospitalization in the Westchester Co. Medical Center.
Surviving are her husband of 47 years; her daughter, Lisa K. (David) Lamberto and grandsons, Ethan, Paxton and Nixon Lamberto of East Windsor, NJ. In her former homeland she leaves behind an older sister and brother and a younger sister and brother and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was born Sun Oksoon on Sept. 9, 1942, to the family of the late Sun Sukmo and Kim Ki-Im, residents of Japan who returned to their ancestral home in Posung, Cholla NamDo, Korea at WWII's end.
Oksoon wed then Staff Sergeant Durr on Jan. 19, 1964 in Seoul, Korea and accompanied him on assignments to Taegu and Seoul, Korea; Tehran, Iran and Okinawa, Japan, along with Ft. Monmouth, NJ, Arlington Heights, IL and Ft. Campbell, KY, from which they retired in 1985 to the family farmstead in Cornwallville. Oksoon's animation and ready laughter have already been sorely missed by her family, friends and fellow members of the Cairo Golden Agers and the Korean Presbyterian Church of Albany, where she was a Deacon.
A graveside service will be conducted on Wed., Nov. 16 at 1 p.m. in Evergreen Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY, under direction of A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, Greenville.
