Obituary of George H. Brown

George H. Brown (85) passed away at his home in Toano, VA on Oct. 6, 2011. He was born in Newark, NJ on July 12, 1926, moving to Livingstonville, NY as a child. He enlisted in the Army on Sept. 5, 1944 and retired on Sept. 30, 1965. He served with A company, 2nd Batt., 47th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division in World War II and also served in Korea and Vietnam. He earned the Bronze Star with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster and other awards and decorations for his service in the U.S. Army. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, Military Officers Assoc. of America and the 9th Infantry Div. Assoc., where he served as President for one year. After his retirement from the Army, he performed title and research work for a Cairo, NY law firm. George renovated a farm house in Freehold, NY, where he resided and collected antiques. He has lived the past 19 years in Toano, VA with his wife and five kitties. He was predeceased by his first wife, German War Bride, Charlotte "Goody" (Gudrun) Brown, his son Danley Fritz Brown, his parents and two brothers Henry and Lindy. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Janet S. Casanave-Brown of Toano, VA, nine stepchildren, a sister Sally Chichester of Greenville, NY and several nieces & nephews. As to his wishes he was cremated and a graveside service will be 2pm Sunday Oct. 16 at the Freehold Cemetery. He will be interred along side his first wife, son and mother-in-law. A memorial service will be held in Toano, VA at a later date.
