Obituary of Audrey Tompkins

Audrey Tompkins, 83 years, of Conesville, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2011 at Robinson Terrace in Stamford. He was born in Windham on June 18, 1928, son of the late Albert and Dorothy Shufelt Tompkins. Audrey was a mechanic/maintenance supervisor with the Gilboa-Conesville Central School District for 30 years. He also served as Code Enforcement Officer in Conesville for 23 years, and worked at South Mountain Sugar House, making maple products. Audrey was a square dance caller and guitar player with the "Country Nite Hawks". He was also an avid hunter and fisherman, and was a member of the Conesville Rod & Gun Club. Audrey was a 50 year member of the Conesville Fire Dept. and was formerly Fire Commissioner. He was a member for 50+ years and Past Master of the Gilboa Masonic Lodge #630, and Past Patron of the Oasis #596, Order of the Eastern Star. Audrey was a member of the Conesville United Methodist Church where he served on the Board of Trustees. Besides his parents he was predeceased by three sisters, Dorothy, Eva and Naomi and a brother, Walter. Surviving is his wife, Margaret Fancher Tompkins; his three daughters, Carolyn Wyckoff (Gene), Joan Assini (Matthew) and Susan Smith (Kelly); four grandsons, Brian and Toby Flores, Scott and Adam Smith; three great grandchildren, Tristan and Eleanor Flores and Keith Smith; six sisters, Melda, Gloria, Alberta, Charlotte, Wilma and Nellie and two brothers, Norwood and William; many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Saturday, September 17 from 12 noon to 1:45 p.m. at the Conesville United Methodist Church, with the Masonic service at 1:45 p.m. The funeral will follow at 2 p.m., with burial in Manorkill Cemetery.
