Obituary of Marilyn D. Walenta
Marilyn Dawson Walenta, 84, died suddenly Saturday, September 3, 2011. Born Marilyn Ruth Dawson on November 10, 1926, she was the first of two children of Thomas and Florence Dawson. Marilyn was raised in uptown Manhattan, living in Inwood and then the Washington Heights sections of the city. Working as a secretary in Manhattan, Marilyn finished her city career as Administrative Assistant to the Department Heads of George Washington High School. A devote Episcopalian, Marilyn found great joy and comfort in the knowledge that God loved her. She was an active member of St. Mary the Virgin Episcopal Church, NYC. It was here that she met and fell in love with the bass soloist in the choir Edmund J Walenta. Married in the church they both loved, they raised 4 children. In 1975 they moved to Greenville NY where Marilyn began her second career working in the Greenville Central High School cafeteria, where she worked until her retirement at the age of 73. She became an active member of Christ Episcopal Church in Greenville. Marilyn had a unique way of bringing "spice" into the lives of everyone she loved. She was predeceased by her brother Thomas Dawson and her husband. She is survived by her 4 children Robert (Barbara), Joyce, Deborah and Susan (Buddy), 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. The funeral service with be Friday September 9, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Christ Episcopal Church, Route 32 Greenville. Donations in her memory can be made to Christ Episcopal Church.
