Arline worked in the elementary library next to my classroom for many years. During that time, she was a delightful and entertaining neighbor. I remember one time a mouse came running in under our closed door, ran around the classroom and then slid out again. I warned Arline to be on the lookout for it. She came in a month later and said that, sadly, mouse remains had been found behind some books in the library. She really hated the rogue crickets that escaped from our classroom and chirped in the library. I tried telling her that in China crickets are considered good luck, but she wasn't buying it. Arline was generous, friendly, and fun to be around. I will never forget that when my mother died four years ago, she saw the obituary and called me. God bless her!
