Obituary of Magdalena Hedwig Britton
Magdalena Hedwig Britton, (87) passed away at her home on Sunday, June 5, 2011. She was born in Glasendorf, Germany, on Apr. 24, 1924, daughter of the late Bernhard T. and Anna (Klapper) Preisner. She lived in the Bronx, NY when she came to America from Germany. Magdalena was a Postal Clerk in the Rensselaerville Post Office for 40 years until her retirement. She was civic minded, a member of the Clark White American Legion Auxiliary Unit #589, the Women's Auxiliary of the 27th Division Assn., the Rensselaerville Historical Society, the Myosotis Girls 4-H Club Leader and active in the Rensselaerville Vol. Fire Co. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women-Greenville-Norton Hill and a Religious Education Instructor. Magdalena and her late husband Ralph owned and operated Britton's Soda Fountain in Rensselaerville, NY until 1971. She will be remembered as a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband Ralph Britton Sr. in 2005 and two brothers, Alfred and Gunther Preisner.
Surviving are her children, Ralph Britton, Jr. (Patricia) of Ravena, NY, Eileen Britton of Coxsackie, NY, and Diana Fritz (Kenneth) of Rensselaerville, NY and seven grandchildren, Brian & Michael Britton, Kimberly Henlin (David), John Kotuc, Stephanie Stepp, Seth & Daniel Fritz.
Funeral service will be Friday, June 10, 2011, 11 AM in the Greenville- Norton Hill U.M. Church, Norton Hill, NY. Friends may call at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR81, Greenville, NY on Thurs. 5 to 8PM. The Clark White American Legion Ladies Aux. Unit #589 will conduct services at the funeral home on Thurs. 7:30PM. Interment will be in the Westerlo Central Cemetery. Those who may wish to remember Magdalena in a special way may contribute in her memory to the Rensselaerville Vol. Fire Co. or to the Greenville-Norton Hill U.M. Church Memorial Fund.
