Westerlo, NY - Joseph Farkas, Jr. (84) passed away suddenly at his home on April 25, 2011. He was born in Lowville, NY on Sept. 5, 1926 son of the late Joseph & Elizabeth (Badics) Molnar Farkas. Joe attended the Reidsville Grade School and Berne-Knox Central for 2 years. He obtained his GED while serving in the US Air Force. He joined the Air force in 1951 and was Honorably Discharged in 1955, proudly serving in the Strategic Air Command. Joe had various vocations, including being a farmer on the family farm, a Artificial Inseminator, a welder at G.E., a Yard foreman at Helderberg Bluestone and a Plumbing & Electrical Contractor since 1965. Active in many organizations, he served faithfully and held many offices in the Hiawatha Grange and the Albany County Pomona Grange. As a young man he was a member of the 4-H and FFA in High School and from 1948 to the present a member of the Westerlo vol. Fire Co. and a member of the Clark White Post #589 American Legion. In his spare time he loved to work in his flower & vegetable garden and to travel. Besides his parents he was predeceased by three sisters; Helen Molnar Stradley, Margaret Molnar Gardiner & Goldie A. Molnar Kropp. Surviving is his wife (of almost 63 years) Vera (Lockwood) Farkas, a daughter Susan Telfer (Joseph) of Westerlo, NY, a sister Irene Molnar Bodi of Rensselaerville, NY and several nieces & nephews. Funeral service will be Thurs. April 28 10am at the A. J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR81 Greenville, NY. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wed. 4 to 8pm. Interment will be in the Westerlo Rural Cemetery. The Hiawatha Grange will conduct a service at he funeral home on Wed. 4:30pm & the Clark White Post # 589 will conduct services at the funeral home on Wed. eve 7PM.
