Obituary of Shirley E. Winnie

OAK HILL - Shirley E. Winnie, 81, passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2011 in the Pines at Catskill after a brief illness. She was born in Cornwallville on August 23, 1929 to the late Charles and Emma Bush Vincent. Shirley was a friend and confidant to all; vibrant and full of energy, she always had a smile on her face. She loved being able to help you and brought joy and a smile to anyone who met her. Shirley loved to volunteer her services, whether it be for an organization or a person who just needed a little help. She was well known for saying "That's affirmative, thank you all for going" as the dispatcher for the Town of Durham Ambulance, of which she was a member for 34 years. Shirley was also a lifetime member of the Oak Hill United Methodist Church, Oak Hill-Durham Ladies Auxiliary and Greene County Ladies Auxiliary. Shirley was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, O. Stanton Winnie, and a sister, Joyce Lotz. She is survived by her daughters, Nancy (Thomas) Taylor of Syracuse and Irene Kiley of Oak Hill; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; sisters, Karolyn Bogardus and Katherine Caswell; brother-in-law, Leland (Arlene) Brown; sister-in-law, Margaret Coolley; godchildren, Brian Bogardus and Sandy Rasso; several nieces and nephews. Shirley will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. As to her wishes, there will be no services. She will be buried with her husband, Stanton, at Saratoga National Cemetery.
