Obituary of James Lee Tigner

James L. Tigner ( 99) of Rensselaerville, NY passed away January 27, 2011 at St. Peter's Hospital, Albany, NY. James was born Marsa, TX on January 17, 1912, the fifth and last child of John F. and Eula B. Tigner. The family later moved to El Paso, TX, and spent summers on their ranch near Deming, NM. Jim chose to go to sea rather than remain at Tulane University in Louisiana. Jim later joined the merchant marines during World War II. His ship was torpedoed at sea and Jim was rescued off a lifeboat after five and half days at sea. Jim married E. Jayne Heltzen in Albany, NY on April 14, 1942 and they resided in Rensselaerville, NY. Jim Tigner was a clockmaker and kept a shop in his home. Jim and Jayne were converted to into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints while in their sixties and chose to serve a mission in Idaho. Jim Tigner went on to preside as President of the Greenville Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. His beloved Jayne died in March of 2009. Jim is predeceased by two brother and two sisters. His survivors include: his niece, Patricia Moses of El Paso, TX, who cared for Jim and Jayne Tigner for several years in their home; other survivors are the following nieces and nephews, Sally Rummler of Nampa, ID; Alan Vermillion of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico; Bob Tigner of Rawlings, WY; Kay Kenner of La Junta, CO; James Tigner of Hartville, MO; George Tigner of Magdalena, NM; and many great nephews and nieces. He is also survived by a brother-in-law Henry G. Vermillion of El Cajon, CA. The viewing will be held at 5pm with services to follow at 6pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 2082 CR 41, Greenville, NY on Monday, January 31, 2011. Burial with military honors at Saratoga National Cemetery at noon on Tuesday, February 1, 2011.
