Obituary of John J. Scanlan

John Joseph Denis Scanlan, longtime resident of East Durham, NY, went Home to God peacefully on Jan. 19, 2011 while in Hospice Care at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson, NY. Born to William A. Scanlan and Irene C. Scanlan nee Magill on March 10, 1935 in Yonkers, NY. He was a graduate of St. Denis Parish School, Cardinal Hayes H.S., Cathedral College and St. Joseph's Seminary. His parents, wife Margaret of 40 years, as well as two sisters, Joan A. Dugandzic of Pearl River, NY and Anne C. Lynch of Clifton Park, NY preceded him in death. Living siblings are William M. Scanlan of Hawaii, Mrs. William F. O'Connor (Geraldine-Jack's twin sister) of Canton, CT and Sister Patricia B. Scanlan, C.S.A. of Yonkers, NY. Known as Jack he was the proud uncle of 17 nieces and nephews, 29 great nieces and nephews and 3 great grand nieces and nephews. He was also the proud stepfather of Kenneth Lever of N. Bellerica, MA and Helen Lever of Middleton, NY and the grandfather of Anthony J. and Nicholas Lever of N. Bellerica, MA. Jack will be greatly missed for his special humor but more especially for his love, kindness and devotion to his faith, family and many friends. Funeral service will be Tues. Jan. 25 10:15am from the A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR81, Greenville, NY with a Mass of Christian Burial 11AM at Our Lady of Knock Shrine, SR 145, East Durham, NY. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sun. & Mon. 2 to 4 and 6 to 8PM. Interment Winston Cemetery, East Durham, NY.
